Votive Light Shades with Vintage Home Photographs

Another DIY craft instructographic from CoolInstructographics.com
A fun, unique and creative DIY craft project that might be a great mother’s day present, especially if you can find old photos of your Mom’s house or her relatives. But don’t assume this project is just for gift giving, you can also make a conversation piece for yourself in your own home with these decorative “light houses” – using electronic votive candles, of course, for your light source.
Have some fun and build a small city to display on your fireplace mantle or end table. Choosing a Victorian scene makes for a wonderful Christmas landscape. Using more modern building for your light shades will change the feel dramatically. And consider using landscapes without buildings – mountain ranges look beautiful as the light shines through the lighter areas of the photograph.
Please send in any pictures of your designs, we would love to post them.
There are a few helpful tricks to make this DIY craft project a success:
- Take or use a picture of a house that is from the front. Printing previous photos is a great idea.
- The print should have extra space on either side of the home so you have plenty of paper to wrap around back.
- Choosing a building that has a higher facade in the middle makes for a more dramatic piece.
- Select a home or building that has windows as it adds to the depth of the photograph
- Be sure your photo or print has nothing written on the back.
